Why Make a Will?
Everyone should have a Will regardless of the levels of their wealth and assets, but it is even more important if you have children, own property, own a business or have savings and investments.
Offering a simple first time Will or changes to existing Wills; we are here to help by giving you a straightforward, hassle free, value for money professional service. Will Trusts and custom made Wills are offered, to ensure every aspect is covered, offering complete peace of mind for you and your loved ones. Here are some good reasons for making a Will.
1. Looking after your loved ones
Talking to your loved ones about your will can save everyone a lot of worry at a difficult time. Deciding who you want to leave your possessions to (your beneficiaries) can help you make sure they go to the people you wished.
2. Avoiding disputes between relatives
Family arguments nearly always arise over who should get personal belongings and assets. It is unfair to plunge a grieving family into making these difficult decisions.
3. Saving on Inheritance Tax
With a carefully-planned will, it is often possible to cut the Inheritance Tax bill on your estate after your death.
4. Protecting your assets for future generations
A will can ensure that assets are kept within the family and are passed on down the generations.
5. Funeral Wishes
Your will can let people know your funeral wishes, whether you would prefer to be buried or cremated, and the type of funeral service and music you would like. Pre-Paid Funerals can save time and money.
A Will should be reviewed every two to three years. Even if you have a Will it could now be invalid or unsuitable if it was made several years ago. Your circumstances may have changed i.e. marriage, divorce, new grandchildren, increase in assets etc. A part of our service will be to remind you to regularly review your Will.
What happens without a Will?
Making a Will is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after your death. If you have not made a valid Will, your property will pass according to the Law of Intestacy. This may not be what you would have wished. In any event it is likely to take longer to finalise your estate than if you had made a Will.
During this time your beneficiaries may not be able to draw any money from your estate. It can lead to arguments and distress for relatives and loved ones. Here are some facts to think about.
- A family can suffer acute financial hardship because of the delays in dealing with the estate of a person who has no Will. These delays can sometimes run into YEARS!
- Banks, Building Societies and Insurance Companies hold millions of pounds belonging to people who are almost certainly dead – because their families are not aware it exists. If not claimed this money goes to the Crown.
- Most people would rather their money went to a charity than to the taxman if they have no one to leave it to. This can only happen through a Will.
